In or around 1945 my father Axel Odegard became pastor of the then Albany Baptist church on Portland Avenue which later became the sanctuary in which you are now located. A friend who visits your congregation occasionally and who belonged to the church then sent me your bulletin and inserts. Praise the Lord that you continue to preach God's Word there on Solano Avenue. May God continue to bless and enrich your ministry there. ]]> Comment on It’s Going To Be Ugly by sarah http://churchonthecorner.us/wordpress/?p=29&cpage=1#comment-408 sarah Tue, 27 Jan 2009 06:07:48 +0000 http://churchonthecorner.us/wordpress/?p=29#comment-408 Who says proponents of same sex marriage hurts no one?  My 12 year old son started school this past September in a nice private school in Berkeley.  He was excited because he was in middle school.. finally.  The newly hired history teacher told his class that he was born in a Bible believing home and became a music pastor in a Christian church.  However, when they would not condone his gay mariage he renounced Christianity and became an atheist.  From the begining my son was worried he said "Mom he hates Christians and he hates me because I belong to the Lord Jesus Christ".  I thought that we could survive this because we would talk and pray aboout it and stand strong.  Well I was wrong.  In a matter of 2 months my son became depressed, said he wanted to die and said there is no God my teacher has proved it.  Well  he said "he went through the Bible book by book and verse by verse disproving every word. He scientifically disproved the Bible".  He felt betrayed by his family, our beliefs and everything.  He said I can't listen to you any more my teacher said that middle schoolers should grow up and think for themselves and besides you lied about God and the Bible and so forth.  I said if you don't believe me, maybe you could look to the scriptures for answers.....he answered the Bible is fraud.  I knew that we had a problem...the teacher had given the kids power to rebell against all authority.  I tried to talk to the school administration but over a 4 week period they barely responded to my urgent calls, e-mails etc.  The week before Thanksgiving I took him out of school and said it is better to have no school than lose your soul.  He was destroyed by what this teacher had done.  He could stop crying and wanting to die.  Fortunatly my son had a strong foundation in Jesus Christ and he is pretty much out of the woods but it has taken all this time for him to remember who he is in Christ and to find his joy again.
