1.6. The Word of God: POWERFUL
a. KEY VERSES: Hebrews 4:12-13
b. KEY THOUGHT: God’s Word is powerful. It is alive. It is like a spiritual double-edged sword that can cut to the very internal heart of the matter in our lives. God’s Word is not dormant. His Word is active because the Holy Spirit dwells in us and brings His Word to life, which has transforming power!
c. KEY QUESTION: According to this passage, how does God use His Word in our lives?
d. DISCUSSION WITH REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
i. Read Hebrews 4:12-13. What are at least six characteristics of the Word of God that this passage reveals?
ii. Which of these characteristics do you find encouraging as you anticipate living them each day?
iii. In verse 13 it says that God sees everything and will hold us responsible for everything we do. How does knowing this stimulate you to rely on His Holy Spirit through the Word to transform you?
f. APPLICATION: Knowing of the great power of God’s Word, how will you engage with His Word from now on?
