The Parable of the Soils is more commonly referred to as the Parable of the Sower. The title referring to the Parable of the Soils however, is thought to be more appropriate for the point that Jesus was trying to make through this parable.

Jesus likened the human heart to the different types of soil, and the receptivity of the heart to the seed of God’s Word. For the heart that is hardened towards the things of God, the seeds of God’s Word are not able to take root and grow. For the heart that is soft and receptive towards the things of God, the seeds of God’s Word can take root, grow and flourish, producing a spiritual harvest many times its own size!

LESSON꞉ Matthew 13꞉1-9, 18-23 (see also Luke 8:1-15) – Jesus tells a story about a farmer to show that there are different results from hearing about the Kingdom of Heaven. (Lesson from GNPI.org)

Question 1꞉ How do life’s worries, life’s riches, and life’s pleasure keep people from accepting the Word of God?

Question 2꞉ What can you do to make sure you are “good soil”?

Question 3꞉ Since the seed is the Word of God and the soils represent the hearts and minds of people, what does this parable indicate is the responsibility of the Church?
