1.7. The Word of God: OBEDIENCE

a. KEY VERSES: Matthew 7:24-27

b. KEY THOUGHT: It is not enough to know that the Word of God is inspired, powerful, and central to the believer’s life. We must put God’s Word into practice.

c. KEY QUESTION: What does Jesus teach us about His Word as we live and face difficulties, temptations, and tragedy?

d. DISCUSSION WITH REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

i. Read Matthew 7:24-27. In what ways does Jesus relate the importance of putting God’s Word into practice?

ii. Why isn’t hearing or even memorizing Scripture enough?

iii. Share a time when you obeyed His Word when you did not think you could. What happened?

f. APPLICATION: What is the difference between application of the Word and obedience to the Word? Is there a verse or verses you read in which you felt God used Scripture to ask you to obey Him in some area? Create action steps to help you obey God’s leading. Create accountability on this matter with your discipler.
