“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

-Matthew 6:31-34 NLT

******************************

Worrying is a futile activity. It robs us of our joy, peace, patience and all of the many other spiritual fruit that God wants for us to enjoy in life.

From this chapter, we learn from Jesus that just like the flowers of the field and the birds of the air, we shouldn’t worry about our lives, overly fixating on what we will eat, drink, or wear. Here, Jesus also teaches that God is our “heavenly Father”. As our heavenly Father, God longs to care for us and to provide us with all the things we need. By worrying, we demonstrate a lack of trust in God.

Instead of worrying about the temporary things of this world that are here today and gone tomorrow, Jesus urges us to seek after those things that are eternal and enduring by seeking first God’s Kingdom and pursuing His righteousness. And through that, God our heavenly Father promises to provide us all the things we need to live!

LESSON꞉ Matthew 6꞉25-34 – Jesus tells us not to worry because He will take care of all of our needs. (Lesson from GNPI.org)

Question 1꞉ Explain worry by giving an example, and then explain to what extent worry can actually change things.

Question 2꞉ Since God is generous to supply the grass of the fields with beautiful wild flowers, which disappear, what is the value of worrying over what He will do for us?

Question 3꞉ How strongly do you believe that if you seek God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, everything you need will be given to you as well?
